Streets throughout a Reading commuter village could have speed limits slashed to 20mph.
West Berkshire Council has been considering a project to reduce speed limits in the village of Theale, with a trial of the reductions set to be approved.
A 20mph speed limit is set to be put in place in Church Street, Blossom Avenue, Englefield Road, and James Butcher Drive.
The speed reductions will come in following a consultation with villagers in Theale held earlier this year.
You can see which areas could become 20mph in the graphic below:
A decision is set to be made on the imposition of a pilot of the 20mph zones in an individual member decision made by councillor Stuart Gourley, portfolio holder for transport and highways.
Cllr Gourley (Liberal Democrats, Newbury Clay Hill) said: “This project helps to deliver a commitment made in the Council Strategy to introduce 20mph speed limits in residential areas where residents want them.
“We are dedicated to working with our communities to enhance the safety and quality of life in our towns and villages.
“This change continues our plan to improve our highways across West Berkshire.”
Cllr Gourley is set to begin the pilot for reducing the speed limit on Friday, August 2.
A 20mph speed limit is already in place on the High Street and in Woodfield Way.
The project is funded by existing capital budget expenditure and is anticipated to cost approximately £5,000.
If further 20mph limits are implemented, the estimated costs for physical work to replace signs would cost an average of approximately £3,170 per kilometre of road covered.
