Windsor Castle is often celebrated as a world-class tourism draw thanks to its history, heritage and glimpse into royal life past and present.
But there’s another reason why it ranks in the top five tourist attractions around the world, and it’s not what you might expect.
In an analysis by Moneybarn Car Finance, the 11th-century castle clocked in at number four in a round-up of the best day trips for easy and available parking.
The report surveyed parking costs, the number of available spaces, one-star parking-related reviews and more to compile its shortlist – which was topped by London attraction St Paul’s Cathedral with an overall ‘parking score’ of 7 out of 10.
It was followed by the Dubai Mall in the UAE and the CN Tower in Toronto.
Windsor Castle nabbed a spot above the British Museum, the Tower of London and the Trevi Fountain in Rome thanks to its six-minute walk to the nearest car park, 507 spaces in its immediate vicinity and average cost of £8.17 for a three-hour ticket.
The ancestral home of 40 monarchs was handed an overall score of 6.73 out of 10.
