Two men in their thirties have been arrested after a delivery man suffered severe facial injuries during an assault in Newbury.

The incident occurred at around 5:25pm on Thursday, November 25 at the junction of The Nightingales and Howarth Court.

Two men reportedly exited a blue Volkswagen and approached the victim when he was delivering parcels.

He was punched and kicked by the offenders during the assault.

The victim was hospitalised with a fractured jawbone, eye socket and cheekbone. Although he has since been discharged, he will return for surgery at a later date.

A 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old man from Newbury were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 33-year-old has been released on bail until October 14 and the 31-year-old remains in police custody.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Elin Wylie-Davies, of Newbury CID, said: “I appreciate the circumstances of this assault may be concerning but we believe it was a targeted attack with no threat to the wider public.
