Staff members at a Reading entertainment venue have said that they are ‘lost for words’ after being left without jobs.
The news was released on Wednesday, July 31 that The Mad House would close its doors after 20 years due to ‘unforeseen actions of their landlord’.
A former employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to the Chronicle after finding out through a group chat at around 5 am that she no longer was employed by the company.
This was before a second message at 9 am letting all staff know that The Madhouse had been evicted by their landlord.
Despite some employees having worked at the entertainment venue for over eight years, no evidence, explanation, or notice was given before the immediate cease of trading.
This affected around 25 to 28 both part-time and full-time staff that were employed by the company.
The anonymous source from inside the business said: “There was no indication whatsoever as to that we would all lose our jobs. There are no next steps, we are left to our own devices to find new jobs and hope for the best.
“We are all really upset, angry, and lost for words really.”
The Chronicle has contacted The Mad House for comment.
