A competition is taking place to name a new block for the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The trust that runs the hospital in Reading is undergoing a project to build a new urology block for procedures that include treating urinary tract infections and prostate enlargements.

A plan for the block was validated on July 4.

The urology ward will replace portacabins and other structures, with removal and demolition works reportedly beginning on July 20.

The trust has launched a competition to name the block.

Steve McManus, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re really excited to begin work on the development of this unit. Not only will it provide modern, state-of-the-art facilities for staff and patients, but it will enable us to perform more surgical procedures and support patients being seen more quickly.

“it’s part of the on-going investment we are making into services at the Trust to ensure our local community can access high quality and safe care as quickly as possible.

“We’re proud to be an organisation that is at the heart of our community which is why we’re encouraging residents to send in their suggestions for names for the new unit.

“We already have wards and units named after local neighbourhoods and notable figures so this is a continuation of that trend.”

You can suggest a name for the block by using a Microsoft Office form found on the Trust website.

The deadline for responses is Sunday, August 11.
