The longest-serving MP in Reading has spoken out against 'racism and thuggery' in the wake of disorder and ugly scenes in towns and cities across the country.
Street unrest has broken out following a stabbing attack in Southport.
Axel Rudakubana, a teenager, is accused of murdering three girls – Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar – at a dance event on Monday, July 29.
After the attack, false claims circulated online that the attacker was a Muslim asylum seeker, which has led to unrest.
Fears that unrest in Reading has so far been unfounded, with rumours of possible violence on Wednesday, August 7 being quelled as thousands of self-styled pro-migration and anti-fascist protesters took to the streets in towns and cities throughout England.
However, there are unconfirmed rumours about the potential for unrest this weekend.
