A renowned Chinese restaurant in Reading has moved to a new location as its business is undergoing an expansion.

Kungfu Kitchen in Christchurch Road has been a staple Chinese restaurant and takeaway since the Winter of 2018. Now, the business is undergoing an expansion with the restaurant and takeaway having moved to a new spot - just a few doors down to 62 Christchurch Road.

Meanwhile, Kungfu's original premises is set to become the Kungfu Kafe and Noodle Bar as work continues on the switch over.

The sign above the door proudly states that the eatery serves English and Chinese breakfast, as well as hot drinks, dim sum, pastries, brunch, hot pots and barbecue food.

Steven Mann, 40, one of the business owners, explained: "We're kitting the place out at the moment, and we want to do it all properly.

"We'll have hot pot tables and barbecue stations throughout. As for the cafe, we're working on that."

Kungfu Kitchen has won over diners and professional restaurant reviewers alike over the years, with renowned food critic and son to Her Majesty the Queen Tom Parker-Bowles heaping praise on the venue in a review published in the Daily Mail in 2021.

The restaurant has an average rating of 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor based on 161 reviews.

Kungfu Kitchen's new location just a couple doors down is now open, after the restaurant took on the unit, previously occupied by Indian business Sizzling Spice, around six months ago.

Mr Mann was unable to say when the cafe and noodle bar will be reader to welcome customers at the restaurant's existing unit, as the electrics are being refitted and the interior is undergoing a redesign.

Describing what guests can expect, Mr Mann said: "Our main restaurant has fish tanks and traditional Chinese furnishings, the kitchen and fridges are all new. Our food is fresh, we don't want to buy in bulk."
