A man has tragically died from injuries sustained in a house fire in Hungerford yesterday.

The incident took place around 11.13am in Priory Avenue, where fire crews from not just the local area but across the South rushed to the scene.

The blaze was reportedly found on the first floor of a two-storey, semi-detached house.

Eight firefighters, donning breathing apparatus, found the injured man and managed his rescue from the building.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed the sad news of the man's passing due to his severe injuries.

The service stated: "One man was located and rescued from the building, however, he sadly passed away as a result of his injuries."

To assist and tackle the fire, two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury fire station were dispatched to the location swiftly.

Also in their company were crews from Dorset and Wiltshire and Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service along with the aerial ladder platform from Whitley Wood.

An additional three officers were sent to the scene.

Expressing their sympathy, the service added, "Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
