The stars of the upcoming Thursday Murder Club film - including Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren - have been spotted visiting a popular Reading venue amid signs that filming is underway nearby.

Mr Brosnan and Dame Mirren are due to star in the Netflix adaptation of Richard Osman's best-selling murder-mystery book.

Residents around Theale have spotted signs that films crews have been shooting around the area, including the Englefield Estate, with signs and sets that fit descriptions from the book .

Online sleuths also spotted that Richard Osman and Netflix have posted on social media about the production - with St Mark's Church in Theale appearing to be the backdrop to the photos.

Now former James Bond star Mr Brosnan has been pictured entering the Roseate Hotel in The Forbury, in central Reading.

IT worker Rakesh, from Earley, was filming his son Nolan for his piano performance YouTube channel - called 'nolansnotes' - on Friday, August 2, when he spotted the former 007 actor - but initially didn't recognise him.

He said: "My son Nolan has contacted hotels to see if they have any interesting pianos to play. He then films the performance and puts the video online.

"After work I took him to the Roseate. There was no one outside the Roseate at the time, and we were shooting some b-roll footage.

"I was just filming Nolan and this car stopped and through my phone screen I saw it was Pierce. I hadn't seen him with his beard before - but I could see it was him.

"He just had his driver there and no one else."

The 50-year-old was then further surprised when another famous face turned up outside the five-star hotel.

He said: "And then 10 minutes later I saw a BMW come by. The woman who got out looked familiar and it was Helen Mirren.

"I thought that's strange, so I looked online and saw that the Thursday Murder Club was in production."

Rakesh - who said he hadn't read Thursday Murder Club but had heard it is 'an amazing' read - added: "My son was quite happy to see the stars.

"If Pierce is going to visit again, Nolan would happy to play the James Bond theme on the piano for him for old time's sake."

The movie adaptation of Thursday Murder Club is expected to release on Netflix towards the end of 2025.
