A major housing development in Shinfield is nearing completion.
Vistry Group is building some 672 homes in Shinfield meadows, with all but 35 properties now complete and largely sold.
This comes in the latest as part of a total of 1,200 homes to the west of Shinfield, first approved by Wokingham Borough Council in 2014.
Of the new homes, 110 will be affordable through either low-cost rent or shared ownership.
Overall construction is expected to finish by December, and the majority of properties complete have already been sold.
Those left to be sold are five-bedroom houses starting from £699,000.
The homes are being delivered under Vistry Group’s brands Bovis Homes and Liden Homes and are part of a wider community of around 1,000 new homes to the west of Shinfield.
Amber Bowley, regional sales director for Vistry Thames Valley, said: “We have delivered homes for the local Shinfield Meadows since work started here back in 2017.”
Vistry are further planning ‘extensive green open space on the doorstep’, having planted new trees across the development. The developers have also provided ‘ecological measures’ to encourage wildlife including hedgehogs and bird boxes.
The spokesperson continued: “We are on track to finish on site by the end of this year and are looking forward to welcoming residents into the final homes as they are complete.
Ms Bowley added that West Shinfield is ‘now a well-established and thriving neighbourhood’.
As well as the new homes, allotments opened in 2019, a new primary school in 2020, and a Lidl supermarket.
The Lidl store is being built in Beke Avenue as part of the new community centre.
Plans alongside the new houses were welcomed by a majority of residents, who said they were ‘much needed’ given the volume of homes built in the area.
In May 2024, a further seven homes were given planning permission to be built, to the east of the new Lidl supermarket.
The homes, built by Thrive Architects, are part of plans to ‘create a vibrant local centre at the heart of the community’.
A further plan to build 25 homes to the west of the Lidl supermarket were approved by Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee in October 2021.
Vistry Group is the UK’s leading provider of affordable mixed tenure homes, delivering thousands of homes a year.
Part of the company are Linden Homes, Bovis Homes and Countryside Homes.
