The heartbroken family of a ‘much loved’ Tilehurst businessman who passed away three weeks after being attacked at Reading Train Station, has paid tribute to him saying that they are ‘devastated’.

John Donovan, 60, was attacked on Saturday, July 20, and rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he placed into an induced coma.

John’s family have paid tribute to him saying that he ‘would always be there to help with a smile and offers of support.’

The much-loved Tilehurst man was a devoted brother, father, grandfather, uncle and brother in law, and had a huge circle of friends from his school days and varied interests.

The family, who have been supported by emergency services and medical staff at John Radcliffe Hospital have expressed their thanks following an extremely difficult time.

They said: “We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to the police and ambulance staff who attended John immediately after the incident and escorted him to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

“We would also like to say a huge thank you for the excellent care that he received in the Neurosciences ICU in Oxford.

“The staff not only looked after John, they supported us as a family in the last three weeks of his life.

“We would now be very grateful as a family if we are given time to grieve for the lovely person who was John in private.”
