Yet more progress is being made on a standout new 'village' of hundreds of homes that is being finalised to the south of Reading.

Green Park Village is a relatively new community made up of hundreds of homes near Green Park business park and junction 11 of the M4. 

Essential details of the latest phase of the development approved by Reading Borough Council's planning department.

Elsewhere the conversion of homes into flats has been confirmed, and a European food shop is set to take over a fashion store in the town centre.

Details on next phase of Green Park Village approved (PL/18/1041)

Essential details on the next phase of the Green Park Village development which is made up of hundreds of homes have been approved. 

These specifically relate to earthworks that enable the development, as well as mitigation for the lakes near the site. The details were approved on Monday, August 19.

In a farewell interview, Tony Page, the mayor of Reading for 2023/24, said it was "hugely satisfying" to see the area transformed from unused land to a business park and a new place to live. 

Green Park Primary Academy was opened there in September 2020, and a train station was also opened there in May 2023.  

Confirmation that terraced houses contain 21 homes (PL/23/1755)

Confirmation has been given that terraced houses along Oxford Road have been used as more than 20 flats. 

The applicant McCarthy Properties had asked for a legal certificate that three terraced houses make up 21 flats, averaging at seven flats each.

The certificate confirming that the three houses had been divided into homes of multiple occupation (HMO)  for more than four years was granted on Thursday, August 22.

McCarthy Properties is an estate agent that lets a range of properties including HMOs. 

Polish food shop taking over clothing store (PL/24/0792)

A Polish and European food shop is set to take over the former Brother2Brother clothing store at the Broad Street Mall.

The fashion store closed earlier this year, and will soon be replaced by a shop selling European food.

Designs show red and white branding for the Delikatesy Smaczek with images of the food it will sell, including meat, wine, bread, sweets and other items. 

Advertising consent for the new store was granted on Thursday, August 22.

There is currently a Delikatesy Smaczek between Metro Bank and Headmasters on the outside of the mall. 

Demolition approved at Royal Berkshire Hospital (PL/24/0922)

Demolition work has been approved at the Royal Berkshire Hospital site to clear the way for a new urology block

The project involves the demolition of a two-storey modular building to make way for a temporary block to treat urology patients. 

The work was approved on August 19.
