Aerial photographs have shed light on the number of abandoned tents, rubbish and camping equipment left at this year’s Reading Festival.
The shots show many tents still littering the fields around Little John’s Farm – despite the majority of festivalgoers having packed up and hit the road.
Similar images are produced each year after the five-day festival, which began on Wednesday, August 21, and finished yesterday, August 25, despite recent efforts from Reading Council encouraging attendees to steer away from single-use plastics and take their tents home.
In recent years, organisers have also managed to cut down on waste by introducing greener initiatives including glass bottle bins, biodegradable food and drink containers and a ban on disposal BBQs.
Youngsters queuing for the riverboat out of the campsite told the Reading Chronicle this morning that they had enjoyed the weekend, especially sets from Fred Again and Catfish and the Bottlemen but criticised the “dreadful” state of the post-festival campsite, which one person said was “a mess” and another described as “horrible”.
This year’s festival had several hitches, including both Lana Del Rey and Renee Rapp’s sets being disrupted by technical issues, but ended on an undeniable high, with Liam Gallagher teasing an Oasis reunion with estranged brother Noel live on stage on Sunday evening.
