Thousands of music fans took to our town last weekend for the event of the year: Reading Festival 2024.

The acclaimed event hosted a whole spectrum of huge acts including Liam Gallagher, Lana Del Ray, Blink 182, and The Prodigy.

Other than the returning Main Stage which saw the majority of headliners perform, new this year was the more immersive Chevron stage with its netted light-up ceiling.

Despite many enjoying the sounds of artists like Skrillex, Jaguar, and Kenny Beats, some thought that this new stage took away from performers on the Main Stage.

One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, said that they struggled to enjoy the softer tones of Lana Del Ray as all they could hear was the bass from the Chevron stage.

Speaking directly to festival goers on the last day of Reading Festival 2024, on Sunday August 25, they also agreed with this sentiment.

One young man said that he thinks the double Main Stage should be brought back and doesn't like the new addition of the Chevron Stage.

"The stage situation this year was s***," they said. "It was awful. firstly, the BBC Radio One tent isn't big enough for the artists which is a real shame.

"The Chevron ruins the vibe completely, can you not hear it? It's just too loud and ruins the acts that are performing on the main stage."

Fellow festival-goer Kayleigh Salmon said that when slower songs are being performed on the main stage the Chevron completely ruins it for those watching.

"They have really heavy bass and all you can feel is the bass instead of being able to enjoy the music," she said.

Reading Festival has been contacted for a comment. This article will be updated once they respond.

The Chevron is an immense 40,000-capacity open-air venue featuring mammoth staging and the world’s first floating video canopy made up of hundreds of thousands of programmable LED lights.

Some festival-goers did however really like the Chevron. A number of people on X congratulated Reading Festival for creating such a great new stage.
