Wokingham Lions Club has shared details of some of the charities and good causes that have received a Golden Award to commemorate the Lions Club's 50th anniversary.

The Wokingham Repair Café, at All Saints Church in Wokingham, fixes household and personal items as well as offering practical advice.

Its Golden Award will be used to buy essential set-up equipment, including a Portable Electric Appliance tester, as well as task lighting and protective vinyl for the tables.

The Lions also donated two refurbished laptops to the café.

Kaleidoscopic, a survivor-led charity by and for victims of domestic abuse, is using its Golden Award for its monthly Fun With Mum sessions, which provide meals, arts, crafts, and activities.

Arts4Wokingham, which works to make art more accessible to the public, will use its Golden Award to set up artist workshops in cooperation with fellow charity PACT.

The workshops will create community art to be displayed at an exhibition during the annual Wokingham Arts Trail, in September 2024.

A Golden Award has been given to Soulscape, which supports young people's wellbeing and mental health.

The funds will be put towards the creation of a lounge in Emmbrook School run by staff and trained volunteers, which will offer young people a safe space during school lunchtimes.

The Berkshire Music Trust, which works to provide high quality music education and nurture the talent of young musicians, will use its Golden Award to deliver a programme of free musical activity, based in Wokingham Borough Libraries.

Wokingham Link Visiting Scheme, which supports lonely and isolated older people, will utilise its Golden Award funds to improve reach to diverse communities and faith groups, by translating and reprinting information leaflets and posters into languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and Cantonese.

Youth theatre company Starmaker's Golden Award will go towards the company's production of Fame, with funds used to purchase around twenty graduation gowns and hats.

The Me2 Club, which helps children aged five to 19 who have additional needs and disabilities to access social events, sports, and leisure activities in Wokingham and Reading, will put its Golden Award towards its next Volunteer Induction Training.

Two Scout Groups, 1st Arborfield Scouts and 3rd Wokingham (Mayors Own) Scouts, have received Golden Awards.

1st Arborfield Scouts will put the funds towards the creation of an action-packed activity programme, while 3rd Wokingham (Mayors Own) Scouts' £500 will finance the replacement of a dilapidated outdoor woodstore at the Norreys Avenue scout hut, as well as new tables for camp use.

Sebastian's Action Trust, which supports children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, will use its Golden Award to support another of its popular Falconry Days at its Crownthorne site, The Woodlands.
