TikToker 'Less Waste Laura' has made a call for festivals to help reduce waste, in a viral video that garnered 95.9K views.

The video came after the Reading Festival, which occurred between August 21 and 26, left behind just thousands of tents in a shocking aerial view of the site.

The Tik Toker said: "This is probably the worst bit about the festival industry. Every single thing that’s left behind."

She noted that the rubbish included not only disposable items that need binning but also tents in good working condition.

As a video of the site played in the background showcasing the rubbish she eloquently voiced her concern for the environment, stating: "so much rubbish has been left behind at festivals and it's not just rubbish that needs to go into the bin."

Going further into the issue, Laura explained how waste isn’t solely a plastic issue, but rooted in the energy used to produce and manufacture products for a single use.

Laura called out manufacturers, saying there was "so much energy involved in actually producing and making and manufacturing these products for them to literally just be used potentially for one festival and then thrown away."

She underlined the responsibility of both festival-goers and companies in this matter, criticising especially the companies for producing cheap items that are easily discarded.

In the video, Laura expressed her heartbreak over the mountains of waste, particularly the thousands of abandoned tents, most of which, she anticipated, would end up in the bin.

Laura suggested that the festival industry needs to take a proactive stance and devise practical and positive solutions encouraging people to reuse their festival gear.

Whilst acknowledging efforts to recycle waste, she observed it is "not at the scale that it used to be."

Ending on a sincere note, she highlighted "there is just so much waste and we need to solve it."
