A neighbourhood pub in Woodley could start selling alcohol in its beer garden if recently submitted plans are given the go ahead.

The Good Companions is a neighbourhood pub in Loddon Bridge Road serving drinks and food to guests, and regularly shows sports on TV.

The pub came under new management last year, being reopened under brewery Greene King's 'Hive' brand of pubs.

The brewery has recently applied for a licence to sell alcohol from its garden and outdoor areas.

Currently, the Good Companions is restricted to alcohol sales inside only.

The application received support from Woodley Town Council's planning & community when it was discussed on Tuesday, August 27.

Councillor David Bragg (Conservative, Coronation Central) said:  "Quite honestly since the new owners took over that place they are trying to make it very family-friendly, and of course, being able to sell alcohol from the garden would be beneficial for them."

Proposed conditions state that any outside areas must be supervised by management and staff.

Furthermore, any mobile bar used to sell alcohol must be supervised at all times when in use, and closed off entirely when not in use.

Greene King has applied for the changes to Wokingham Borough Council's licensing department.

You can comment on the application by emailing licensing@wokingham.gov.uk. The closing date for representations is Monday, September 9.

The pub's opening hours vary. From Monday to Thursday, it is open from 11am to 11pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, it is open from 9am to midnight, and from 9am to 10.30pm on Sundays.
