Works are ongoing at a fuel station along a busy road running through Reading.

The Esso Southcote Express along the A4 Bath Road remains closed as part of an upgrade project approved by Reading Borough Council earlier this year.

The Tesco Express at the station is still sealed off while work continues.

A major part of the upgrade is installing a new canopy to allow larger heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to use the fuel station.

This 5.2-metre tall canopy was seen installed on Friday, August 30, with construction crews still at work on the site.

The project also involves increasing the fuel capacity to 60,000 litres for both petrol and diesel and rearranging the car park.

The changes mean the fuel station will have 14 parking spaces, one disabled space, and a space reserved for people topping up air, water and screenwash.

Work on the site is due to be completed on Tuesday, September 10, according to the Tesco website.

While the fuel station remains closed, drivers are directed to the nearest Tesco Express garage in Church Street, Caversham.

There are other fuel stations nearby at the Sainsburys superstore in Calcot, the Asda at The Meadway in Tilehurst, and the Esso Asda Express in Berkeley Avenue.
