The new landlord of a popular pub near Reading has spoken out on the roaring success he and his team have experienced since opening their doors.
Tommy Gavaghan, who took over The Unicorn which is situated just north of Sonning Common, said that things are going well after their grand opening two weeks prior.
"Over the weekend it has been fantastic," Mr Gavaghan said. "It's going really, really well. Obviously, some things are still a work in progress, but overall it is taking shape."
He went on to say that the whole team is feeling very positive about the move and that they have all had great feedback from many of the regulars.
Mr Gavaghan also said that not only are people revisiting the pub since its reopening but that they have already had hoards of new customers.
Other than lots of options for alcoholic and soft beverages, The Unicorn has also launched a brand new extensive menu.
"We're doing a lot of typical British pub things along with lots of other dishes," Mr Gavaghan said.
"We're doing our Sunday roasts with plenty of options. Lamb, pork, chicken, beef, and vegetarian. And we are also starting a lunchtime menu with wraps, and salads."
The pub also offers a number of other delicious plates such as mackerel fillets, burrata, chicken liver pate, steaks, fresh fish offered every single day, and lots of veggie options.
They also do some small plates tapas style. "These include patatas bravas, selection of cheeses, meatballs, sardines, calamari, plenty of stuff," Mr Gavaghan said.
He went on to say that he has been in hospitality since he was 18 years old and has worked in the industry for around 35 years.
Mr Gavaghan has taken on this venture along with a great team including a talented number of kitchen staff.
Other than extensive seating inside the pub, The Unicorn also boasts a big spacious beer garden outside the front of the establishment.
"We have a marquee up as well that can hold about a hundred guests," Mr Gavaghan said. "It's been really lovely in the sun, there's just something for everyone here.
"We are also building an adult's only secret garden that we are very excited to invite guests to. It will be a little hidden place with pods where people can chill out and relax."
Mr Gavaghan also stressed that children are welcome at the pub as are dogs.
