A 42-year-old Reading man has been arrested following an assault outside a casino after Reading Festival.

The incident took place at around 12am on Monday, August 26 outside the Genting Casini on Richfield Avenue.

A woman in her twenties, alongside a group of people, was walking down Richfield Avenue talking to the offender when she started to feel uncomfortable.

After asking the offender to leave, a scuffle broke out between the group of people and the offender.

When the woman attempted to intervene, she was punched in the face, sustaining bruising and swelling to her jaw. She was hospitalised and has since been discharged.

Investigating officer, PC Thomas Kelly said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to this assault to please come forward.

“It happened on Richfield Avenue at a time where a large number of people will have been exiting Reading Festival, so I am confident that this incident will have been seen.

The man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault by beating and one count each of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress.

He has been released on bail.
