THE Annual Reading Legal Walk is set to take place in a matter of days, held in a bid to raise money and to support local free legal advice centres.
The 9th annual Reading Legal Walk will take place on Tuesday, September 17, where lawyers, colleagues and friends will get together to complete a 10k walk in a bid to raise money for local free legal advice centres.
The 10K sponsored walk is organised by the London Legal Support Trust (LLST) and all funds raised support local free legal advice agencies such as Age UK Reading, Citizens Advice Reading, FLAG DV, Launchpad and Refugee Support Group. This is so that anyone living in Reading can access legal advice when they need it most, regardless of social class or wealth.
Bob Nightingale MBE, founder of LLST, said: "We have faced many challenging years and unfortunately the struggle continues, therefore it is more crucial than ever to unite and raise funds for local advice agencies.
"The Reading Legal Walk is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together in support of access to justice while also enjoying ourselves.
"LLST remains dedicated to assisting these local advice agencies through events like this.
"Many in our community are struggling with domestic violence, unemployment, homelessness, debt and many other issues.
"They rely on the support of free legal advice agencies to help resolve these challenges."
Fundraisers are hoping to raise more money than last year, with a goal set of £16,000, which will go towards vital free legal advice services.
This year's annual walk will be led by HHJ (Her Honour Judge) Emma Nott and the High Sheriff of Berkshire, Alexander Barfield, with more than 200 walkers and 35 local organisations confirmed.
The Reading Legal Walk will begin at 5pm, beginning and ending at Forbury Gardens, and complimentary drinks will be handed out by the London Legal Support Trust (LLST).
Mr Nightingale of LLST, added: "By walking with us, you are making a tangible difference.
"You are helping to ensure that everyone has access to justice, regardless of their financial situation.
"Together, we can transform lives and create a fairer, more just community.”
