Heavy and thundery rain is forecast to persist across the county on Sunday as September gets off to a decidedly soggy start.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Berkshire today, Sunday, September 8, with heavy and possibly thundery rain expected to cause flooding and disruption across southern England.
The warning will be in place until 6pm, with a small chance of power cuts, flooding, cancellations to bus and train services and difficult driving conditions.
A spokesperson for the forecaster said some areas could see between 40 and 60 mm of rain, with a higher impact than normal after heavy rainfall earlier this week.
Thunder and lightning in central and southern regions overnight were caused by a band of wet weather that will continue to move inland from coastal areas, they added.
Some sunshine is expected to develop in parts of the southeast throughout the day but will be offset by further slow-moving thunderstorms.
The Met Office’s yellow warning for rain covers almost the whole of southern and central England, but further updates could be issued before it expires at 6pm, including escalations to amber on a more localised scale.
