THE CAVERSHAM Horticultural Society's (CHS) Autumn Show was a resounding success, despite the mixed weather this year.

The Caversham Horticultural Society (CHS) held their annual Autumn Show on Saturday, August 31, at Emmer Green Primary School, attended by more than a hundred visitors this year.

A spokesperson for Caversham Horticultural Society, said: “It went very well, there was a nice number of exhibits, and a really good number of visitors.”

Despite a ‘mixed gardening year’ due to heavy rain and hot summer days leading to dry soil, members still managed to put wonderful produce on the tables. The CHS spokesperson said this year was “not an easy year to get good crops.”

The show featured a variety of classes, including exhibits where members could showcase their vegetables, fruit and flowers, as well as classes for people of all ages to enjoy.

The CHS spokesperson said it was encouraging to hear visitors say, “my crops are as good as those,” wishing they had entered the autumn show themselves.

According to them, some visitors left the event, with a view to exhibiting their produce at the next show.

Mrs D Elton was the star of the show, as she was awarded with a whopping eight prizes including the Ford Silver Challenge Cup, Balmore Cup, Voyle Cup, and was awarded most points which earned her a place on the Jubilee Shield.
