The A&E department at Royal Berkshire Hospital is seeing an overwhelming number of patients today according to patients who have been seen queuing out the doors as they wait to see a doctor.
Among those waiting for care include dozens of walk-in patients, and people in waiting ambulances.
Pictures of queues at the hospital show numerous ambulances waiting on Craven Road.
According to a patient currently waiting to be seen, wait times are currently around six hours, with doctors allegedly seeing 40 patients per hour.
Despite the obvious queues, a spokesperson from Royal Berkshire Hospital has said that it is ‘no busier than a typical Monday’.
They said: “We’re no busier than a typical Monday, but we would like to remind people that the Urgent Care Centre in Broad Street Mall, Reading is open 7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm and accepts walk in appointments from people with minor illnesses.
“People with urgent cases should ring 111 or go to 111online. Emergency cases like heart attack, stroke and severe bleeding should ring 999.”
