The closure of a hair salon in the town centre has created a "horrendous" situation for a beauty firm - as the closure has essentially shuttered the long-established firm's store front.

OhMy Hair has ceased trading at a unit in 18 Cross Street, which has seen the landlord re-enter, declare the lease forfeit, and change the locks on the front door.

Cocoon Beauty had been using the salon's front door as its main entrance for customers, as it rents the separate unit at 18a Cross Street behind the now-defunct hair salon.

Cocoon's owner Lisa de-la-Plain said she was “completely in the dark” about the hair salon’s imminent closure earlier this summer.

Lisa said: "We didn't even know it was going to happen until a month before it closed. It was staff from the hair salon that told me.

"It's been an absolute nightmare."

The hair salon's closure has meant the Lisa has had to inform all her clients that her business is still operational, as well putting up signs in the window of the derelict street-facing unit.

Customers are still able to receive treatments onsite and gain access by calling Cocoon staff when they arrive for their appointments.

Lisa, who employs four staff members and has been in business for more than 16 years, has thanked her clientele for their “fantastic” support and understanding during the difficult period.

The business owner said she has had sleepless nights over the future of the premises - as she is not sure when they will be put on the market and what sort of business may take on the space.

She said: "We have spoken to the landlord and asked what's going to happen. A new renter might not want my customers coming over the threshold into their business.

"We pay our rent on time, we do everything right - but we have been struggling."

Signs in the window of 18 Cross Street show the unit's landlord as Church Lands and John Johnson's Estate Charities, with Blandy & Blandy LLP acting as legal representatives.

The signs indicate that the lease - which began on May 12, 2023 - was considered forfeit on July 25, 2024,
