A huge store selling pre-loved fashion and upcycled furniture is due to open its doors next month much to the delight of all the thrifters in our town.

Thames Hospice Superstore will welcome customers on October 17 to their new large shop which will be situated on Richfield Avenue opposite Rivermead Leisure Centre.

Marketing and communications manager Kathryn Best, 55, said that the whole team is very excited to invite customers to see what they have been working on.

"It's all hands on deck at the moment trying to get the store ready for opening day," Ms Best said. "There's loads going on!"

The site will occupy the old Fun and Frolics building and stock everything from white goods to high-quality fashion to upcycled furniture.

The shop will have a big section dedicated to clothes and a homeware section. They also plan to have a cafe where people can enjoy food and drink whilst browsing the shop floor.

"We do a terrific amount of upcycling in turns of furniture and will also have a repair shed. People can bring in pre-loved items and we can fix them or alter them," Ms Best continued.

Toys are going to be a particular focus of the repair shed but they also plan to offer repairs for furniture and clothes.

"We are also going to have an upcycling studio where we amend and improve pre-loved furniture which we then distribute to the shop floor," she said.

This service also includes taking orders on customer's furniture that they want to alter so experts can do it in-store.

There will also be a children's section which sells pre-loved books, toys, furniture among other items.

"It's everything we already do at our stores but more," Ms Best said. "We're also going to have a dedicated vintage and retro section where there will also be professionals who can repair clothes and make small alterations."

Ms Best explained that they even plan to offer customers alterations on clothes that they have found in store to make sure that they can take home something that fits.

"Richfield Avenue has an awful lot going for it and it is an area that is developing so we are excited to start up there," she said.

"It's going to be a great area for West Reading really."

Ms Best went on to say that the staff in the shop will be a mixture of paid staff and volunteers, with every section having a paid member of staff on hand.
