A Reading thug who attacked a police officer during a stop and search has been jailed for four years.

Lorenza Clarke was stopped in June and officers found he had more than £1,000 on him as well as two phones advertising the sale of drugs.

Clarke then went onto beat up a police officer and damage a police car before he was arrested.

Thames Valley Police said Clarke was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday, September 13.

Sharing the news to the force's local Reading policing Facebook page, residents shared their reaction to the news.

In reference to the government's new early prison release policy, Alison Caturra simply said: "Bye bye, [I] hope labour don’t let you out early."

While Reece Holloway, who said Clarke is a relation of his, added: "He [is] my cousin see u soon mate."

Meanwhile Benn Lott described the outcome as a "joke ting", in inferred dismay to the court case's conclusion.

The maximum sentence for assaulting a police officer in the UK is life imprisonment, although this would only apply in cases of extremely serious violence causing very serious injury. Other non-life sentences are graded according to the seriousness of the crime.
