'Are We Dating The Same Guy' groups on Facebook have sprung up around the world to warn women about unsafe and adulterous men - now a Reading resident has created one with the aim of keeping local women safe.

The social media groups see women post photos and details of the men they are dating - as they suspect the men to be cheating with others in the area.

The private group covering Reading has attracted more than 1,000 members since it was created just over a week ago.

Speaking to The Reading Chronicle, the creator of the group said her aim is to "to help women stay safer in the dating scene."

Becky Clarke said: "So much is online these days - and very easy for someone to fake an online persona.

"The group can hopefully highlight any red flags early on."

The group allows women to warn others about "liars, cheaters, abusers" and anyone who exhibits "toxic or dangerous behaviour," according to its description.

Posts that constitute "bullying, gaslighting, shaming, victim blaming, or aggressive behavior (sic) towards any other women in the group" - as well as any racism - will lead to an immediate ban.

Women can post anonymously - but they are warned the group cannot guarantee that information won't be leaked by other users.

'Are We Dating The Same Guy' groups - often shortened to AWDTSG - have come under scrutiny and criticism as their popularity has exploded since the first group began in New York in 2022.

AWDTSG groups - which have more than 3.5 million members as of January 2024 - have been accused of spreading false, malicious allegations against specific men.

Last year, a 41-year-old man sued the administrators of a Canadian group for $35,000, alleging that the group "called names, accused of sending lewd photos and of being a bad parent," according to coverage from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
