A prolific shoplifter targeting multiple Co-op stores has been jailed after pleading guilty in Reading Crown Court.
Simon Hawkins, 36, of no fixed abode appeared in court on Monday, September 30 for four counts of burglary and three counts of shoplifting.
Hawkins targeted Co-ops on Overdown Road and South View Avenue, stealing numerous items including alcohol, cigarettes, and tobacco.
These crimes occurred between March 14 and June 22, 2024.
Investigating officer PC Vince Moore, part of the neighbourhood policing team for Reading town centre expressed his pleasure that Hawkins is now behind bars.
He was sentenced to one year and four months in prison.
PC Moore added: “I hope this ruling sends a clear message to shoplifters that your behaviour will not be tolerated and you will be brought to justice.
“This sentence is just one result of an ongoing and dedicated focus under Operation Purchase on targeting our most prolific offenders as effectively as possible.”
