Three Berkshire MPs have met with climate crisis campaigners to draw up plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The meetings, which took place October 11 and 12, were organised by Reading Friends of the Earth, Berkshire Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, and Global Justice Now.

The campaigners are urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to devise a fair and ambitious plan.

This comes after a High Court judge ruled that the previous plan, introduced by Rishi Sunak's government, was unlawful.

The government is now required to create a new climate plan by early May 2025.

Campaigner John Booth said: "The government must show climate leadership, that has been so seriously lacking, by setting out a clear route map for building a greener future, so everyone reaps the benefits of lower energy bills, warm homes, clean air and better public transport.

"We want a fair and ambitious action plan that reduces our reliance on overseas gas and oil and puts the UK at the forefront of the green industrial revolution."

Reading Central saw MP Matt Rodda and councillors Andrew Hornsby-Smith and Karen Rowland meet with constituents.

Due to his role in government, Mr Rodda was unable to comment, but the councillors showed their support by joining the campaigners' line-up with placards.

Yuan Yang, MP for Earley and Woodley, had a positive discussion with constituents and posed with a 'United for Warm Homes' poster.

Olivia Bailey, MP for West Reading and Mid Berkshire, agreed to write to the Prime Minister in support of a bold action plan.
