A dedicated webpage for drivers who were wrongly issued parking fines in Reading to be paid back has gone live.

Reading Borough Council has admitted that 6,136 fines have been issued incorrectly due to an error in the creation of traffic regulation orders (TROs) which restrict road use.

Those who have been fined are now invited to be refunded.

The wrongly issued fines cover four main areas, with the largest being the Red Route running through East Reading.

These routes are established to prevent stopping and parking to maintain traffic flow.

Errors were also found for a TRO stopping drivers from waiting at two residential streets in Katesgrove.

The final two main errors relate to the council's restrictions on parking on verges and footways in roads in Southcote, Tilehurst and Kentwood.

The council has stressed that the errors do not apply to pay and display parking.

The page went live at 9am on Wednesday, October 16.
