A chain lounge and diner known for its glamorous venues is set to open in Reading town centre.

Cosy Club is a collection of 35 swanky restaurants in England serving food and drinks to customers.

The chain is run by the Loungers company, and is seen as a slightly more upmarket version of the Lounges which are spread across the country.

Now the company is making preparations to open Cosy Club at the former Lakeland store at the entrance to The Oracle in Minster Street.

A spokesperson for Loungers said: “We are in advanced negotiations on a site in Reading – it’s a great area and we are hopeful to join the local community by opening a Cosy Club and creating between 30-40 new jobs.

“Nothing is totally confirmed yet, however, for every site we open, it’s important to us that we give back to the community by partnering with local charities to raise funds and getting involved with the neighbourhood we serve.

“We hope to have more info on the site in Reading soon.”

In preparation for opening at The Oracle, the company has applied to sell alcohol from 10am to 2am daily, and provide late night refreshment and regulated entertainment from 11pm to 2am each night as well.

A statutory consultation has begun into the application submitted to Reading Borough Council's licensing department.

You can make comment by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for responses is Friday, November 8.

It would be the first Cosy Club or Lounge site in Reading proper, with the Alto Lounge being located in Caversham and the Bosco Lounge situated in Woodley.
