A Polish deli is getting ready to open a larger shop in Reading town centre in a unit that used to be occupied by a men's fashion store.

The Delikatesy Smaczek is a traditional shop selling Polish deli foods and more on the outside of the Broad Street Mall facing St Mary's Butts.

Soon the business is set to open at a larger unit outside the mall facing Oxford Road.

The unit was previously occupied by the Brother2Brother men's fashion store, which closed earlier this year.

Banners announcing the opening of the Delikatesy Smaczek have appeared, and fitting work could be heard in the morning on Monday, October 21.

In preparation for opening, the business has applied to sell alcohol off the premises from 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 6pm on Sundays.

If approved, it is expected that the deli will sell the Polish beer brands that are available at the current store, such as Tyskie, Zywiec, Lech and Perla.

For the alcohol sales to go ahead, the business requires a premises licence from Reading Borough Council.

A statutory consultation into the licensing application has begun.

You can take part by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The closing date for representations is Wednesday, November 13.

In August, the Delikatesy Smaczek won consent for its advertising for the former Brother2Brother unit,  with red and white branding and images of the food it will sell, including meat, wine, bread, sweets and other items.
