Reading has been ranked as one of the best cities in Great Britain for public transport.

The study, conducted by GetByBus, placed Reading fourth overall, with people in the town using a train station an average of 75.13 times a year.

The research analysed data from over 300 different authorities and ranked areas based on various metrics, including the number of bus and train stops per square mile, train station usage per capita, and the percentage of journeys to work made by bus and train.

Ante Dagelic, CEO of GetByBus, commenting on the data, said: "With workers, students, and others relying on public transport daily, it is vital for links across Great Britain to be strong and reliable.

"England tends to be the strongest nation in Great Britain for public transport, with eight of the top 10 locations found here, while Wales and Scotland each have one area in the top ranking."

Reading scored particularly well in train station usage per capita and the percentage of workers using the bus for commuting.

12.21 per cent of workers in Reading use the bus as a mode of transport to work.

The study also highlighted Reading's high availability of bus stops and rail stops per square mile, ranking it in the top four per cent of locations.

Glasgow was named as the best city for public transport.
