Three generations of the same family have officially opened a newly relocated optician branch in Tilehurst.

The Bowyers were given the honour of opening Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, which has moved to a larger, more central unit on School Road.

They were given a gift to mark the occasion and to recognise their many years of custom.

The new store has two private rooms for eye tests, featuring hospital-grade OCT scanners, and an additional hearing testing room, bringing the total to three.

Customers can also choose from an updated range of frames, including a wider selection of the latest designer names.

Branch manager Rebecca Harbor said: "We have invested in the new store and wanted to celebrate its upgrade and relocation in a memorable way.

"The Bowyers are cherished customers who have trusted us with their eyesight and hearing care for many years and were the perfect choice to be our VIPs.

"It has been a privilege to serve them all these years and see the twins, Elliot and Emelia, grow up so quickly before our eyes."

The Bowyers have always lived in the area and were honoured to be asked to reveal the store’s new look.

Helen Bowyer said: "The entire team at Scrivens is superb and always make me and my family feel very welcome.

"We all need to wear prescription glasses and contact lenses, and their service is second to none.

"The new branch is fabulous and we were honoured, as well as pleasantly surprised, to be asked to officially open the relocated branch."

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is a family-run business which was established more than 85 years ago in 1938.
