A primary school in Reading recently held a ‘Values Day’, to teach its pupils the importance of five key elements when it came to respecting one another.

Held St Michael’s along Dee Road on Monday, October 21, the day saw students learn about respect, kindness, aspiration, perseverance, and appreciation.

Children and staff communicated the value which is most important to them by wearing the school's chosen associated colours, for example, blue for respect.

Headteacher Aimee Crofts said: “The day was a great success and a start to the children learning about the values chosen by the school community; the children commented on how much fun it was learning about our new values.”

On the day, several activities were arranged to help the students learn about the school’s chosen values.

Published poet, A. F Harold, was invited to share his work with the children in the aspiration workshop.

The pupils cheered each other on regardless of how high they climbed.

The children in reception were also given their perseverance challenge, as they took part in an obstacle course.

Lauren Davis, who is the school’s partnership executive at Reading College, also attended the event.

She spent time with the year 5s and 6s, with the focus being their potential career choices.
