Footage of an "idiot" driver obstructing an emergency ambulance has gone viral two years after the incident.
The video, shared by Policebibintv on Tuesday, October 29, has been liked 40,700 times and shared 4,737 times.
A man in the video said: "This is a shocking moment when an idiot tried to slow down the progress of an emergency ambulance that was responding on blue lights to reports of a male who had collapsed."
The incident took place on Wednesday, November 2, 2021, on the A4 Bath Road, Reading.
Paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service were driving towards Maidenhead when 38-year-old Albert Butler deliberately tried to obstruct the emergency vehicle.
Dashcam footage from the ambulance shows the vehicle overtaking Butler, who was driving a red Suzuki Vitara.
However, Butler, of Windermere Road, Reading, overtook the ambulance and attempted to slow it down again.
He continued to overtake other drivers who had pulled over to let the ambulance pass, before blocking the ambulance's path once more.
Butler then drove erratically along Wargrave Road, braking heavily, weaving across the road, and even veering onto the wrong side of the road.
Butler's reckless behaviour was captured on the ambulance's dashcam and partially recorded by a passenger on their mobile phone.
The emergency ambulance crew lost valuable time in their response to a man in need of life-saving assistance.
Butler's driving was described as "disgusting behaviour" by the video commentator, who added: "How the idiot behind the wheel of the red Suzuki ever thought he would get away with this disgusting behaviour remains a complete mystery."
The footage led to Butler being convicted of dangerous driving and obstructing and hindering an emergency worker.
He was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and given 200 hours of unpaid work over an 18-month period.
He was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay £300 in costs.
The video serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of dangerous driving and the importance of letting emergency vehicles pass without obstruction.
