The race for the next President of America is almost over, with the presential campaign nearing an end in a town called Reading in Pennsylvania.

Reading in the county seat of Berks takes its name from Reading, Berkshire in the UK.

On the eve of the presidential election, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris held duelling rallies throughout Pennsylvania.

Trump held an afternoon ‘Get Out The Vote’ rally at the Santander Arena in Penn Street. Reading, Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, the Harris campaign held several events throughout the afternoon into the evening in Allentown and Pittsburg.

The former president's event in Berks County, Reading focused on rallying voters ahead of voting.

Reading in Pennsylvia was named after Reading, Berkshire four years after it was mapped in 1947 by Richard and Thomas Penn.

Upon the creation of Berks County in 1752, Reading became the county seat. The region was settled by emigrants from southern and western Germany, who bought land from the Penns.

It also famously known as been the birth place of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who was born in West Reading.

Her family owned a Christmas tree farm in the area where Swift spent her early childhood years. She even wrote a song about the experience named ‘Christmas Tree Farm’.

Trump, who has been criticised by Swift fans for publicly stating he is not a fan of the singer,  held one of his final rallies in the area.

According to CBS, experts say Pennsylvania's Latino community could determine which campaign wins those crucial 19 electoral votes and possibly the White House.

Therefore, the campaign's stop in Reading is important because nearly 70 per cent of the city's population identifies as Latino.

The Trump campaign recently faced criticism from the Latino community due to a comedian at a Madison Square Garden rally recently referring to Puerto Rico as a ‘floating island of garbage’.

Nevertheless, the former president shared his optimism about Election Day and winning Pennsylvania.

"If we win Pennsylvania — not me — if we win Pennsylvania, we win the whole ball of wax," Trump said.

Reading, Berkshire residents were asked what they thought of the presidential campaign and who they think will win.

One resident commented: “Both [Trump and Harris] have visited Reading, Pennsylvania, hometown of Taylor Swift.

“Trump visited just prior to the 2020 election and Kamala visited a community college there, not sure when.

“I predict a narrow Trump victory. He has more cultural influence now compared to 2016 and 2020, so that may help?”

Another added: “I hope Kamala.”
