A person has been killed after being hit by a moving train near Thatcham Station.
Thames Valley Police and paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service were called after reports of a person on the train line between Reading and Newbury.
The incident occurred about about 3.30am this morning (Wednesday, November 6).
A spokesperson from the British Transport Police stated: “Officers were called to the line near Thatcham railway station at around 3.30am today (6 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Trains were cancelled between Reading and Newbury until around 10am this morning (November 6), affecting commuters between London Paddington and Newbury.
National Rail and Great Western Railway, however, provided alternative transport including taxis and coaches at stations that were affected.
Passengers were told to wait outside the station.
Although the Reading to Basingstoke route was not impacted, the incident affected passengers travelling between London Paddington and Newbury / Bedwyn / Frome / Bristol Temple Meads / Paignton / Plymouth, and also between Reading and Newbury / Bedwyn.
The identity of the person has not yet been released publicly and will likely be for the coroner to confirm later in the year during an inquest opening.
