A Greggs chain bakery is set to be taken over by a new independent café in Reading town centre.
The Greggs in West Street closed down in 2023 after years of serving baked goods, drinks, sweet treats and more to 'on the go' customers.
The unit it used to occupy has been closed for months, and is now set to be taken over by an independent café and bakery.
The trademark Greggs blue, orange and grey branding has been replaced with pink and white branding.
The signage for Mon Cheri states that it will serve breakfast, brunch, pastry, patisseries and ice cream to customers.
No advertising application has appeared on Reading Borough Council's planning applications website yet.
Mon Cheri is not currently open, with the inside currently being obscured. Its name means 'My Dear' in French.
It is understood the business is independent, with no other visible uses of the brand in the UK.
Cafes with the same name are present in Brussels, Belgium and Tirana, Albania.
Greggs retains five bakeries in Reading, situated in the Broad Street Mall, Queen Victoria Street, Market Place, Christchurch Road and the Whiteknights Retail Centre.
A Greggs in Whitley Street that took over from the Wellington Arms in Whitley Street in 2018 closed in February this year.
That bakery has since been transformed into the Turkish Halal Food Centre.
Meanwhile, work is taking place to build a drive-thru Greggs at the site of the demolished George & Dragon pub along the A4 Bath Road running through Southcote, and another drive-thru at the Stadium Way Industrial Estate in Tilehurst.
