Reading’s much-loved GLOW Lantern Parade is set to return this December, promising a night of festive cheer and community spirit.

The winter lantern procession, which culminates in a musical finale at Town Hall Square, will take place on Saturday, December 7.

In preparation for the parade, numerous lantern-making workshops will be held throughout Reading, giving residents the opportunity to create their own paper and willow lanterns.

Jelly is again running workshops at their Broad Street Mall studio on Saturday, November 9 and Saturday, November 16.

These sessions, led by professional artists, are open to all ages, but families should note that each young person will need to be accompanied by an adult.

A single ticket allows two people to make a lantern, and each family will need to book for more than one lantern if they wish to make multiple.

Participants are advised to bring a large carrier bag or bin bag to transport their wet lanterns home.

The workshops will be held in the studio space in the Broad Street Mall, which is situated on the first floor, next to the public toilets and car park.

Additional workshops will also be held on Saturday, November 23 at the new Whitley Wood Community Centre, and on Saturday, November 30 at Coley Park Community Centre.

Each workshop lasts two hours and requires a separate ticket for each person attending.

The lantern parade itself is set to take place in Reading Town Centre from 5pm until 6.30pm on Saturday, December 7.

The procession will move at a slow walking pace and accessible viewing areas will be available in Forbury Gardens.

The lantern workshops are wheelchair accessible, and participants are encouraged to inform organisers of any other access requirements.

The event will proceed in light rain, so attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather.

The parade, which brings together families and friends in a celebration of the festive season, is a highlight of the winter calendar in Reading.

It offers a unique opportunity for residents to come together in a community spirit-filled evening, walking together in candlelight to enjoy the magical musical finale in Town Hall Square.

The GLOW Lantern Parade is an event that Reading residents look forward to every year, combining creativity, festive cheer, and a sense of community.

With the return of the lantern-making workshops, residents are now being encouraged to prepare for the much-anticipated evening of lights, music, and celebration.

The event is not just a procession; it's an invitation for the community to celebrate the winter season together, united in the glow of their handmade lanterns.
