A man has been arrested after a college on the Berkshire border was repeatedly put into lockdown over a 'false bomb threat'.
Several schools across the Farnborough area were placed in lockdown due to the police response to the incident.
The Sixth Form College Farnborough, which is attended by students from across Berkshire, was put into lockdown at 11.45am and 1pm today on the advice of police.
The lockdown was in place while police located a man who had made a false bomb threat, according to Hampshire Constabulary.
A 40-year-old man from Farnborough has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. He remains in custody.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We know that many of you will be aware that a number of schools in the area went into lockdown today.
"This was done as a precaution to confirm the safety of staff and students, as efforts were made to locate a man who had made a false bomb threat.
"A 40-year-old man from Farnborough has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. He remains in custody.
"No explosive devices have been located as a result of this arrest. Local schools have been informed that there is no longer any threat and they can now come out of lockdown.
"We know this would have been a very worrying time for some people but we want to reassure you that our officers were on scene quickly and were in constant contact with the schools and colleges that were affected."
The police response followed a report from a member of the public, according to a statement from the college.
Mock exams scheduled for this afternoon have been cancelled and students have been advised to attend lessons instead.
