Almost a year has passed since a Woodley charity, which provides food for people in need, was formed.

ACT Foundation UK, based in Woodley, describes itself online as a ‘trusted charity organisation in the world, which operates in a growing number of countries across Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe’.

The charity’s causes and projects are ‘wide and varied, encompassing small initiatives led by an individual or small group, to larger projects carried out in partnership with other organisations’.

Almost a year ago today, the charity started helping people in Woodley who may need it. The charity operates from two churches in the area where they run a community kitchen.

Volunteers prepare fresh food every day at home as well as using the kitchen. The community can then visit the churches on Fridays every week.

Writing about the work online, ACT Foundation UK said: “Nearly a year ago, when the Woodley, Berkshire group began considering starting ACT Seva in their area, they started brainstorming various initiatives.

“Today, one of our volunteers shared that almost seven months ago, while passing by this church, she thought, "One day, we will start something here."

“As you all can see, we indeed have started cooking for the needy people. The icing on the cake is that our ACT logo is now proudly displayed on their notice board.

“Today (Saturday 16), ACT volunteers served hot soup with vegan butter and bread. Thanks to volunteers who are always ready to serve selflessly.

As well as Woodley, the charity also supports communities across the UK.

On Tuesday (November), the charity was serving people at a neighbouring county at Olympic House in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

The charity wrote: “Serving the homeless at Olympic House the past two weeks. Volunteering is not just time spent for helping others.

“It can be a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to connect with each other through meaningful, selfless ACTs, that enrich their lives and add value to the world.”

This year, for Christmas, the charity will also be taking on a Christmas gift-wrapping event. The annual fundraiser helps people get their gifts wrapped ahead of the big day.

The event will take place on Sunday, December 15 and December 22 at The Harlequin in Watford.

Writing online, the charity said: “It's that time of the year again, when ACT volunteers can engage in festive fun at our annual Christmas wrapping fundraiser.

“Whether it's to help volunteer with the gift wrapping or to get your gifts wrapped, your support would be greatly appreciated.”
