A charity has launched a scheme allowing people to sponsor dogs as Christmas gifts.
Dogs Trust Newbury has invited people to gift the sponsorship of dogs currently in the charity’s care to dog lovers this Christmas.
The charity has around 1,600 dogs in its rehoming centre at any one time, and anyone can sponsor a dog for £1 per week.
People will receive a sponsorship pack that includes a photo certificate of the chosen dog, photo postcards, a window sticker, and a fridge magnet.
People will also receive updates from the sponsored dog three times a year – at Christmas, on Valentine’s Day, and in the summer.
Currently, the charity has 21 dogs available for sponsorship, including Dodge at Dogs Trust Newbury.
Dodge is a four-year-old Pug crossbreed who enjoys playing with his toys and spending time with people he trusts.
Dodge's previous owner was unable to look after him, and he may be unsure when meeting new people.
He also prefers to be touched on his own terms.
Dogs Trust Newbury staff understand his boundaries and ensure he is comfortable and happy while in the charity's care.
Natasha Tarrant, manager at Dogs Trust Newbury, said: "We adore Dodge, and I am sure the dog lover in your life will too.
"By sponsoring a dog like Dodge, not only are you helping your chosen sponsor dog, but you are also helping us care for the hundreds of dogs being looked after within our 21 rehoming centres.
"The money raised through this scheme is vital in helping with all aspects of running our centre, from heating the kennels to providing treats and enrichment toys, training and behaviour support, and any veterinary care required for our dogs."
Dogs Trust finds homes for thousands of dogs each year.
Most dogs find their forever home within around six weeks.
However, for those that require love and support for a longer period, Dogs Trust is committed to caring for them and providing a happy place for them to stay for as long as necessary.
Dodge is one of 21 dogs at Dogs Trust Newbury currently available for sponsorship.
