Residents in Reading have been questioning ‘what is wrong’ with traffic in the town centre.
On Reddit, a social media platform, residents have been questioning why traffic is so heavy in the town centre.
One resident, who has been living in the town for eight years, wrote: “Literally, I have three miles to work and it takes me almost one hour to get there and back. Roadworks everywhere.

“They don’t finish one but starting another. Traffic lights but the works are on the footpath. You can’t drive the bus lanes during off-peak hours.
“I’m really considering moving out of Reading just because of this. To get anywhere literally it takes hours! I hate this town for the traffic. Roadworks on A33 all the time since I moved into Reading.”
Another added: “Yeah I get it. Sucks for me too because I actually have to drive as I need to take my partner to work, and there is no option of public transport for her to get to work from my house.”
A third resident who has also faced issues said: “Reading traffic has always been a nightmare. If you live in RG1 you can't go anywhere.

“Not to mention gridlock days when it can take you over an hour from the A329M to RG1 or get stuck inside the IKEA car park for hours.”
One resident suggested that people were not using other modes of transport enough. They wrote: “There are way too many workers, parents and kids that could walk/cycle/bus but they can’t be bothered - this is the issue.”
Another commuter suggested the town should introduced congestion charges. They wrote: “Reading will need to introduce congestion charging soon to reduce the amount of driving through the town centre.
“This will be a great idea, personally now affected, if I'm driving in I usually do it on the evening or weekends. Otherwise on weekdays I'll take the bus, train or cycle in.”
Another resident suggested that traffic lights are the issue. They said: “For starters they could cut about half the traffic lights. No need for them to be every 100 metres.”

One resident who has since moved away noticed traffic has not improved since they left. They wrote: “I moved out of reading four years ago and whenever I visit, I want to leave again as soon as I hit traffic.
“There is just something worse about Reading traffic. The last two times I visited, I got stuck in traffic that took a ridiculous amount of time to travel about one mile.
“So much time lost, and that was just over a couple of days. It would drive me mad to do that every day.”
