Two female cats, Minnie and Kara, have been in the care of the RSPCA for over 250 days.

The East Berkshire Branch of the RSPCA is appealing for new homes for the cats, who have received little interest from potential adopters.

The charity believes their long stay at the cattery near Maidenhead is due to the current cost of living crisis, which is making people hesitant to adopt.

Rehoming manager Lara Di Virgilio said: "Minnie and Kara are super friendly cats with loving personalities but sadly they keep getting continually overlooked and we don’t really know why.

"They have come from very different backgrounds but share equally sad stories and deserve a second chance at happiness.

"Both of them would make wonderful family companions and we’d love to see them out of the cattery and in their own homes in time for Christmas."

Minnie, a dark tortoiseshell, was taken into the care of the RSPCA on July 24 while she was heavily pregnant.

She was an unwanted pet, but raised her six kittens successfully.

However, unlike her offspring, she is still waiting for a home.

The two-year-old cat is said to enjoy human company and being stroked, and she may even sit on your lap once she gets to know you.

Kara, a black and white cat, was abandoned in the Thames Valley area and brought in on the same day as Minnie.

The five-year-old feline is described as having a friendly and happy temperament, adoring human company and enjoying playing and cuddling.

Kara will need to be the only cat in the household and will require a safe outside space to enjoy.

Ms Di Virgilio added: "We’d urge anyone who is considering taking on a feline friend to come and meet these girls, or help us to spread the word by sharing their stories with family and friends."

The RSPCA has found that black and black and white cats, like Minnie and Kara, are nearly three times more likely to come into their care than tabby cats.

They also take longer to be adopted, with an average wait of 29 days compared to nine days for grey tabby cats.

The East Berkshire Branch relies solely on fundraising and volunteers, and has already rehomed unwanted, abandoned and neglected cats this year.

Every cat in their care is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated prior to leaving.
