Residents have been sharing memories of a hotel that will be closing its doors to guests later this month.
The Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel along the River Thames is to close and undergo 'extensive renovations' under new ownership, according to staff at the hotel.
The exact date of the hotel's closure before the end of December is yet to be confirmed, according to staff who spoke to The Reading Chronicle.
One staff member said the new owners planned to keep the site as a hotel after 'extensive' renovations.
On the Facebook group Reading & Thames Valley Area "Memories of another day" Murray Leese posted a photograph of the Crowne Plaza in Caversham along with the following caption.
He said "The Crowne Plaza which was once owned by the Monarchy has been sold and will close at the end of December...
"I feel that the Caversham Bridge Hotel was by far a better-looking building.."
Dozens of people flocked to the comment section to share their experiences at the establishment, with many remembering when the Crowne Plaza used to be the Caversham Bridge Hotel.
One commenter wrote "I loved the old Caversham Bridge Hotel best of all, they had great dinner dances there and I once took my whole family there for Christmas dinner."
Another person said "I did a number of gigs at the Caversham Bridge hotel with the Kenmen back in the 70's."
A further person wrote "We stayed there when we were in Reading. It had changed a lot since it was Caversham Bridge Hotel sad to see it close."
Staff at the Crowne Plaza are waiting to be told if they will be redeployed in the business.
One staff member said: "We hope to redeploy elsewhere in the business."
The hotel's owner IHG Hotels and Resorts has been contacted for further details.
Plenty of other members came to the comment section to share their memories of the hotel which will shortly close.
One person said "I Had my wedding reception in the old Caversham Bridge in 1986 and when coming back to Reading to visit friends or family have always stayed at the Crowne Plaza or under its various names.
"Very comfortable and helpful staff. Wonder how it will change!!"
Another person said "We had my parent's Golden Wedding Anniversary there, it was beautifully done."
A further person shared "49 years ago had my 21st at Caversham Bridge hotel."
