READING FC have brought in James Bittner as a goalkeeping coach.
The veteran gloveman decided not to extent his stay with Newport County to join Royals’ ranks.
Bittner will join Scott Marshall’s Under 23 set-up where he will work with the best young keepers at the club.
Newport boss Michael Flynn had been hoping to keep Bittner as a member of his own coaching staff at Rodney Parade after his playing contract was not renewed at the end of last season.
However, the former Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers and Hereford United keeper, who was limited to only a handful of appearances in two seasons in South Wales, opted for pastures new.
Newport County released a statement saying: “James Bittner has been a brilliant servant for the club over the last two years, from taking on the role of caretaker manager for two matches to helping the team achieve the Great Escape and a fantastic Emirates FA Cup run.
“Everyone at Newport County AFC would like to thank James for his efforts over the last few years and wish him the very best with his future endeavours.”
Reading Under 23s are back in action this Saturday.
Marshall will send two sides away to build fitness ahead of the new season.
The first squad will play Ebbsfleet United while the second outfit will challenge Leatherhead.
Their last game was a 3-2 win over non-league side Slough Town. Both games start at 3pm.
Meanwhile, Icelandic goalkeeper Jokull Andresson will sign a professional contract with the Royals when he turns 17 at the end of August.
The 6’4” stopper – younger brother of Academy defender, Axel – played above his age level last season with six appearances for David Dodds’ Under 18s.
Andresson will now be sent out on loan to National League South side Hungerford Town until January to gain regular first-team experience.
Axel was one of six Academy graduates to make his first team debut last season.
