Thames Valley Church League
WEST Reading produced one of the shock results at the weekend as they stunned league-leaders YCMA Newbury in Thames Valley Church League.
The home side ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Lewis Doe and Jordan Onraet-Wells. It was West Reading’s second win of the season and they will be keen to build on this shock result.
Norreys stunned Tilehurst this weekend to make it two major scalps in two weeks after their win over Barkham last week. They raced into a 3-0 lead at half time thanks to goals from Adam Toft, Shaun Gray and Matt Loxton, before they were reduced to 10 men for the whole of the second half through a serious looking injury. Despite a fightback from the title contenders, Norreys’ spirit shone through and Adam Toft added another to all but seal the win as Norreys ran out 4-3 winners.
Wycliffe Wanderers picked up their first win of the season, and they couldn’t have picked a better time to do it. Wanderers beat their local rivals, Wycliffe United 1-0 thanks to a goal from Michael Roberts. The win sees Wanderers keep up the pressure on West Reading at the foot of the table.
Bethel United are the form team in the league and they kept up that impressive run of form with a 4-2 win over Brookside St Laurence. Sid Abu, Sheriff Salah and a brace from Scott Shepherd proved to be enough for Bethel as they fire themselves into the title hunt this season. Jack Perret netted a brace for Brookside who fall below Norreys in the table.
