The Captain’s Swansong took place at Theale, with Keith Dawson choosing the unusual format of a three-ball better ball, on top of which, certain holes to be played off the red (ladies) tees.
Added to this for the players was the challenge of a wind reaching 40 miles per hour, which restricted the scoring.
The winners with a clear six-shot lead with 86 points was the trio of Kevin Allum, Phil Neal and Paul Ellis.
Runners-up with 80 points was the family team of vice captain, Kris Hallett and his two sons Matt and Zack.
The third place with 78 points, went to a countback and was taken by Del Stephens, Terry Dean and Bob Clark.
There were also nearest-the-pin competitions on the second and 17th holes, won respectively by Kris Hallett and Dave Freemantle.
As a fitting finale, the longest drive at the 18th was won by outgoing captain Dawson.
MARY Harwood and Kevin Wilkins overcame high winds and inclement weather to win the Chappell Cup at West Berks on Saturday.
The pair, who also won the competition in 2016, returned a highly commendable 38 points while Barry and Shelagh Lancaster were second with 33.
Jason Kendal and Jane Brackenbury were one shot further back in third place.
Kevin Good also overcame the extreme conditions to win the men’s Saturday stableford with a splendid 40 points.
Paul Reber, continuing his recent good form, scored 37 points to take second place by a single point from Ray Freeman.
